Worms Armageddon meets Robo Rally
Players: 1-13 | Time: 30-60 minutes
The Synopsis
Rocket Cats is a card drafting and programming game where each team is trying to kill their family’s traitor cat. You’ll do this using strategic planning, teamwork, and outrageous kitty weapons. If you love hilarious moves, chaotic fun, and kitty madness, Rocket Cats is for you.
The Story
Romeow and Julicat’s love is a forbidden one, but one that will never die, even if they do. Julicat’s family, the Ocicats, want her dead for loving Romeow, a filthy Russian Blue. In one last act of betrayal, the two cats are married. The ceremony is beautiful, but finally, they must resign themselves to their fates…
The Planning Phase
To begin the game, each team comes together to decide on a rough strategy for the turn. You only have a minute, so plan quickly!
The Drafting Phase
During this phase you are given 6 cards to look through. You must choose which card is most useful for you this turn, while ensuring your opponent (who will receive the cards you don’t choose) doesn’t get the perfect card for their situation. After selecting 1 card, you’ll pass the remaining 5 to your opponent. You’ll then receive 5 to look through, choosing 1 and passing the rest. Repeat this until every player has 5 cards.
Once you have 5 cards, you’ll program them in front of you, choosing their order and whether you’ll use the top action or the bottom action of each card.
The Card Phase
This is where the craziness starts.
- Each player’s first card takes effect (according to their initiative number).
- Projectiles move through the air. These projectiles either fly straight (such as rockets), or follow a thrown arc (such as a holy hand grenade or mortar). To show the thrown arc, you’ll use static cling arrows to mark their trajectory.
- Cats in the air fall 1 space.
During this process, cat’s will be pushed, cards will be changed or stolen, carefully crafted plans will be thwarted, and general chaos will break out across the board.
A Party Game Like No Other
There are quite a few programming games out there, but many of them end up infuriating rather than hilarious. Rocket Cats is the perfect blend of strategy, chaos, and fun. It’s the game that everyone loves after a single playthrough and causes more belly laughter than anything we’ve ever played. In fact, one of our playtesters asks to play it every time he comes over.
